IMEI Code Is Nessary In Indian Mobile From December 1

Indian telecom ministry has asked operators to disconnect mobile phones without the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number from December 1. Telecom ministry take this decision due to security reason.Department of Telecom has asked operators to crack down on illegal and China-made cheap handsets, which do not bear any IMEI code. It is estimated that there are about 25 million handsets without IMEI number.Due to threat of terrorism, India has already banned the import of both GSM and CDMA mobile handsets that don’t carry a unique electronic serial number which helps identify a phone. Now the import of CDMA handset without any electronic serial number (ESN is also banned.Indian telecom ministry previously asked mobile operator to disconnect service to all handset containing no IMEI number from 15th April,2009.But due to request from mobile operator, the date is extended to December 1. Still huge number of people use mobile phone without any valid IMEI number. So it will create a big problem of Indian mobile user.
